Aldgate School Chromebook Appeal

We are proud to be supporting the Aldgate School with their Chromebook appeal which is centred around providing access to technology for children who currently don’t have the means to carry out their learning from home.

Having been based in Aldgate since our incorporation in 1994, Merchant Land is keen to actively support the local community. We recently hosted the ‘Aldgate in Winter Festival’ at 33 Creechurch Lane in conjunction with the Aldgate School and the City of London corporation

Message from the Aldgate School
The Aldgate School is the only maintained state primary school within the City of London. We have 34 nationalities within our school community and many of the families have English as their second language. We aim to offer our children a broad education. Covid-19 has affected our children and families in many ways and unfortunately it has highlighted a lack of access to technology in many homes, therefore restricting children’s opportunities to engage with their online learning during isolation or school closure times. Some of our class bubbles had to close and move to remote learning in the autumn term and the majority of our pupils are learning from home at the moment.

Providing access to technology not only allows for the children to learn remotely but also to communicate with their peers during periods of isolation. This is essential in supporting wellbeing and reducing isolation amongst the children; many of whom live in overcrowded conditions and are experiencing the effects of financial hardship.
