Aldgate in Winter Festival at 33 Creechurch Lane

Merchant Land are delighted to be hosting the Ald-Gate Lantern – built by the pupils of The Aldgate School Art Club– at 33 Creechurch Lane as part of the 2020 Aldgate in Winter festival. Aldgate in Winter will be a celebration of the essence of community, exploring themes including ‘light, hope, nature’. The festival will take place from 7 – 20 December.

This year it will be a lantern festival in a different form. It will include local exhibition, taking place in three key sites across Aldgate:

  • Aldgate Square’s Kahaila Café and the neighbouring St Botolph’s church steps and gardens;
  • Toynbee Hall’s Community Centre;
  • 33 Creechurch Lane

Chairman of the City of London Corporation’s Community and Children Services Committee, Randall Anderson, said: “Aldgate in Winter has become a local tradition. Community support, social connection and a sense of being part of something is, arguably, needed now more than ever. “The restrictions on gatherings has meant that this year’s festival will be different, but we hope as many people as possible will take part to make this another successful event.” “Many people have experienced the great sense of camaraderie which has emerged from the Covid-19 crisis and this is something which the festival harnesses, reinforces and celebrates.”
