Press Release: Creechurch Lane EC3

Planning in progress for 33 Creechurch Lane, EC3

Boutique developer Merchant Land has announced its plans to redevelop a tired six-storey office building on 33 Creechurch Lane, EC3, into a vibrant 22-storey office and retail offering.

The existing building, located almost directly behind 30 St Mary Axe (commonly known as The Gherkin), is a six-storey office building constructed in the 1970s, which will be transformed by leading architects, Assael Architecture, into modern office space with associated public realm improvements.

Located in the heart of the City of London’s financial district, the project is designed to deliver world-class office space for SME businesses, not only enhancing the Mitre Square public realm, but also contributing positively to the City’s skyline. 33 Creechurch Lane is extremely well located just a few minutes’ walk from Lloyd’s of London at the junction with Bevis Marks. The building is served by Liverpool Street and Fenchurch Street stations, with Aldgate, Tower Hill and Bank underground stations all within a few minutes’ walk.

Katherine McCullough, development director at Merchant Land, comments: “Our Creechurch Lane site is an ambitious project for us, particularly as the building has significant limitations. However, at Merchant Land, our expertise lies in taking on challenging sites and bringing the highest quality and specification to each, in order to exceed that of the surrounding area and we are extremely excited about the challenge this site presents us with. The result will be a modern and attractive landmark building with first-class working space for SME occupiers.”

The new development in EC3 is Merchant Land’s fifth scheme in London, with an additional site recently purchased in west London, which will be one of the firm’s largest developments to date.
